INTRO

Hello! My name is Katy Talerico, and as I'm running for District 128 school board, I thought I'd share a bit about myself. I grew up about 30 minutes south of here in Niles, in a single parent household, with my mom and sister. Financial struggles were the norm, and while my mom worked to provide for us, my sister and I essentially raised ourselves. Thankfully, I was able to attend an amazing high school, which I credit for providing the guidance and encouragement that helped me achieve my dreams. Without my teachers, coaches, counselors, and CRC advisor at my high school, I truly believe I would not have accomplished all I have.

As such, I feel passionate about education, specifically high school education. High school is a pivotal time in all children's development. District 128 has the obligation, I feel, to provide every child who attends there, the opportunities I was privy to: the opportunity to explore his or her interests, find his/her passions, excel at them, and allow those to be used as stepping stones to a fulfilling future beyond high school. As a school board member, I would love to help make sure District 128 schools provide all children a similar framework for success, and thus contribute to children, what my high school gave to me.
"Children are the world's most valuable resource, and its best hope for the future."
